DeShawn Wilkins was born in the early 70's on the west side of the City of Detroit. He is graduate of the Detroit Public Schools system. At an early age, DeShawn was taught to maintain a strong work ethic, be a person of integrity, treat people with respect, and that leadership comes with great responsibitility. With that, DeShawn has sought to diligently serve God, provide for his family, and help others. The killing of his younger brother in Detroit reinforced his desire to see young people accomplish great and positive things. DeShawn and his wife, Stephanie, have been married for over 20 years and reside in District 5.
Bitten by the "entrepreneur bug" as a young adult, DeShawn was a small business owner for over 20 years. For over 16 years he has been a senior pastor in the City of Detroit, ministering to lost and hurting people. DeShawn hopes to be elected to the State Senate and to serve the residents of - Dearborn Heights, Detroit, Garden City, Inkster, and Redford - in District 5.
DeShawn's decision to run for the Michigan State Senate and to serve the citizens of District 5 - Dearborn Heights, Detroit, Garden City, Inkster, and Redford - comes from wanting to represent the people and the issues that concern them. His love for the community is what drives him and his background is what makes him a good choice as the next State Senator of District 5. However, DeShawn looks at serving the public as an honor and not a career. He will not disappear after elected. You will, still, be able to talk to him after the campaigning is over. For DeShawn, It's about the people! Working for the people! Serving the people! ™
